Caravan Sites.
Caravan sites appear to be just about a hot topic recently. I see many questions on caravan sites associated with facilities, cleanliness etc.
So I have decided to put this short article together , well its more of a synopsis of caravan sites and my own personal ideas and experience in relation to caravan sites.
When I was younger I used to go caravanning also it didn't matter an excessive amount of concerning the caravan site as they were all just about exactly the same, very basic, largely I believe this was due to the fact that caravans were basic and everyone had virtually the same. I recall I was never bothered concerning the facilities or showers just a bucket of cool water on the head was a lot more than acceptable and actually added a fun factor. Great site am certain you all remember these days!!
Nowadays technology has moved on so caravans are a lot more advanced so the caravan sites need to keep up and provide extra facilities, this I believe has taken with it a certain snobbery which surrounds the caravanning culture. (More on this later)
Today caravan sites need to have ratings? Caravan sites have to have 1st class facilities even the tiny quiet caravan sites have had to intensify their game, there are even caravan sites which offer WIFI access I mean that is just ridiculous the complete point of caravanning is so it is possible to leave your home/job current lifestyle behind and enjoy tranquility of nature's surroundings. My point here's if you want the big TV's and internet access and exactly the same comforts as home then why bother caravanning? You will want to just go to a hotel? If you ask me it completely defeats the thing. (rant over)
Caravan Site Facilities
Well this is is actually a whole book in itself so I will try and keep it simple.
Small caravan sites often have the basic facilities; they will have a Chemical Disposal point, a location to fill up your water and an electric point. Some could even have a toilet and shower block on site. These kind of caravan sites I discover the friendliest.
For the large caravan sites, well they are able to all of the above but multiplied so they may have two or three 3 toilet blocks with numerous toilets and showers they may have numerous washers, they may offer a games room, fishing food the list is pretty much endless, all of this though comes at a price. These type of caravan sites remind me an excessive amount of a business they want your money and do not really care about your holiday.
The reason why for picking between the two a re very easy some caravan sites are perfect for a weekend or perhaps a short break others are ideal for a few weeks or even more. Personally I favor the quieter site and make my very own entertainment and decide what I would want to do.
The Snobbery
When I was a younger caravanner I remember driving onto the caravan site unhitching the caravan levelling etc and sitting back and enjoying life, individuals were friendly and like I have said before everyone was the same.
Nowadays it is a different kettle of fish altogether the larger the tow car and the larger the caravan, this is what it appears to be all about. The snobbery is beyond belief you used to be in a position to have nice conversations with other people on site, now it appears to be about showing off. I had people tell me that their caravan is way better, their tow car is way better, their van offers this that and another but quite frankly I am not bothered. Do these folks have a life?

Personal Encounter of Snobbery
I mean I parked up in France one day on a pleasant quiet site there was me and another foreign vanner we were at other ends of the website, we occasionally waved said hello, hello you know the usual. A few days later a massive 4x4 appeared with a fresh twin axle caravan and where did he park it right close to me...... this probably was because he saw my GB sticker on the car.
After about 4 hours of this guy messing around I believe he finally were able to park his big van. (Although it was fun to view him struggle to be honest) The next day he came over asking where there are good places to go etc which didn't really bother me as I am an agreeable chap. But constantly he would be bragging about his car how good it tows, how good his van was, what his van had, offering me what to borrow. It really began to get on my nerves. After all to be honest my car and van total about 8000 his as he kept stating costs 63000 I mean was I supposed to be impressed? Bow maybe? All I thought was what an idiot we are at exactly the same caravan site, drove the same distance, what does his 63000 do this my 8000 do? Well the answer is nothing!! Its just pure snobbery and unfortunately you can observe it wherever you go. Luckily for me he only stayed for 5 days so I could then benefit from the rest of my holiday.
